The B.T.M Band: Next Generation is the youth section of the B.T.M Brass Band, which is one of the most successful brass bands in the country. "B.T.M" stands for Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen; three villages nestled together in an old South Wales mining community.
The Next Generation band has been in existence for many years, several of its members having progressed into the senior band, representing it at the highest level both at home and abroad.
The current Next Generation is benefiting from state-of-the-art facilities in the newly refurbished bandroom on Newport Road, Bedwas, thanks to grants from the Welsh Assembly Government in 2010.
Next Generation band rehearsals take place on:
Thursdays, 6.00p.m. - 7.15pm and Saturdays, 10.00am - 12 noon.
Beginners and improvers are welcome.
There is a small fee charged for tuition - but it's great value for money! The BTM Next Generation's tutor and musical director is Mark Hutcherson, a high school music teacher who has been a member of the B.T.M Band since he was a small boy, has played euphonium to the highest competition standard and now devotes his spare time to teaching the Next Generation. He is assisted by his daughter, Bethan Hutcherson, who is a Welsh teacher at Radyr Comprehensive school.
It is hoped that children and young people in the Next Generation can bring along their own, or school instruments. However, there are instruments for loan available.
The Next Generation plays a wide variety of music, some especially written for it, and performs throughout the Caerphilly borough regularly. Have a look at its "diary" page for details of forthcoming events.
You can contact Mark Hutcherson directly on 07865 062274 for more information.
